YOU CAME TO THE WRONG NEIGHBORHOOD, SON

In Character Information
Name: Amemiya Taiyou, Genius Striker of the Decade
Series: Inazuma Eleven

Backstory:
Wait! Before anything, I need to clarify this is from the gameverse. There will be differences from the show below.

Even from a young age, Amemiya Taiyou was sickly. He's probably spent more time in a hospital than any kid should. He was never really sure what he wanted to do, aspirations and whatnot; someone as ill as him didn't have the liberty to dream as big as other children. At some point a nurse told him a bit about a certain sport called soccer. Curious, Taiyou got a hold of a ball and started practicing by himself. It was so engrossing that soon enough the little boy found himself playing for longer periods at a time until the sky darkened. But it wasn't meant to last, and the doctors said the sport was aggravating a grave illness. Everyone forbade Taiyou from playing soccer anymore, or any other intensive exercise. It upset him, of course. But he didn't really have a say in the matter. Years passed, and he eventually forgot about soccer.

But one day, as he flipped through channels in his hospital bed he saw a broadcast about the Holy Road football tournament; a Raimon match. Their plays left a strong impression on Taiyou; who excitedly cheered for them. It was then he realized he couldn't hold back his feelings for soccer anymore. He wanted to play against Raimon. One could say without exaggeration that it became his reason for living. It became a deep wish of his to play with that spirited boy on the television. "Matsukaze Tenma"--Taiyou dreamed of the day he would be able to face him on the football pitch. In secret, he began to train himself again. He joined the soccer club, where others commended his great ability. They said he was so skilled that he was the kind of player one would only come across once a decade. Soon enough Taiyou was captain despite only being a first year.

His skills at soccer continued to improve, but his health did not. Taiyou was at the hospital for a check-up again, and quickly got bored. Taiyou went ahead and stayed outside the hospital entrance instead of in his bed like instructed. To his surprise, who else should walk out the door but Matsukaze Tenma, the boy he admired; along with his (literally) little friend, Nishizono Shinsuke. Taiyou greeted the two, and excitedly commended Raimon's great plays, telling the two that he had been watching the Holy Road competition all this time, and was jealous because he wasn't allowed to play soccer. He and Tenma became good friends quickly during the following days. Shinsuke with a laugh mentioned the two were quite alike.

After the quarter-finals match with Gen'ei, Tenma became alarmed with the fact that Fifth Sector began abolishing schools whose football clubs rebelled against them; leaving many students without schools. Some of them (or their parents) began blaming Raimon. Feeling down with the revelation, and even unsure if his wind of revolution was a good thing after all, Tenma went for a walk to clear his head. He came across Taiyou at the train station, who promptly passes out. Tenma called the ambulance, and went with the medical team to the hospital to watch over him. When Taiyou awoke on his hospital bed, Tenma asked him why he was out there. Taiyou glumly spoke of his frustration, how he wasn't allowed to "follow his heart". With those words resounding in his mind, Tenma left to prepare for the semi-finals match against Arakumo.

Tenma was not aware that Arakumo was, in fact, Taiyou's team.

Amemiya was then greeted with news both good and bad. On the positive end, he would be discharged from the hospital. But unfortunately, the doctors had not given him the clear to play in Arakumo's match against Raimon. Refusing to accept it, Taiyou confronted the Holy Emperor Ishido Shuuji, demanding that he be allowed to play. Ishido firmly told him that he should be treated first; since they were unsure if his body could even last through that one game. Taiyou refused to back down, and shouted out that if he couldn't play the match, he would be as good as dead. After all, he wasn't even sure if he would live until a "next time". He wanted to play with Tenma. Even if it meant he would die. Taiyou convinces Ishido to let him play, if only because Taiyou would have lost the will to live otherwise. Arranging the best medical team he could gather, the Holy Emperor hoped for the best.

Seeing Taiyou at the stadium at all surprised Tenma, who learned the severity of Taiyou's condition from Fuyuka; and he was further shocked to discover Taiyou was the captain and genius player that Raimon was warned to be cautioned of. Tenma couldn't focus on the match because of how worried he was for Taiyou. Understandable, given his clear fatigue every time he shot. In his mind, he begged for his body to not fall apart before sending his team to the finals. Taiyou then noticed Tenma's hesitation, and called him out on not being as strong as he remembered him to be. He added that whether or not Tenma would do his best, Taiyou would--because he played every match as if it was his last.

Taiyou's words reach Tenma, and he finally responded to Taiyou's challenge in full. Tenma's keshin evolved into Majin Pegasus Arc. Even if this resulted in a score against his team, Taiyou was happy to see Tenma back to his usual self. Stepping up his game as well, Taiyou asked his teammates to lend him their strength, so that he could summon his own keshin Sun God Apollo once more in a final showdown. Raimon reacts accordingly, and Tenma's keshin evolves further by combining with captain Shindou Takuto's and striker ace Tsurugi Kyousuke's respective keshin into Matei Gryphon. Taiyou was overjoyed to be able to face Raimon this way, the very team that compelled him to return to soccer. But still, he would not lose, he shouted out. He cast Sunshine Force; but Matei Gryphon proved more powerful than Sun God Apollo, and sent Sunshine Force flying back at Arakumo's goal and settled the conclusive score.

The final whistle resounded--Raimon had won.

Just as the victors began to celebrate, the exhausted Taiyou collapsed. Tenma rushed to his side, and Taiyou weakly smiled. He got his wish to play with Tenma, and should have had no more regrets. He was the happiest he had ever been in all his life to play in such a match. Just moments before, he would have been content to die then and there. But Taiyou began to tremble. He clutched his chest, close to tears. Taiyou asked Tenma what he should do.

He didn't want his life to end there, after all. He still wanted to play soccer.

Tenma looked at him straight in the eye, and sincerely told Taiyou he still could live on. After getting treated, they would play together again. Tenma promised he would wait for him; and that things would work out, as long as Taiyou doesn't give up. Taiyou returned to the hospital to wait for the operation and treatment; hopeful for the day he can play again.

-- And then he was brought into The World.

What was he to think of this strange situation? You'd  think a kid should be anxious and frightened and panicked to quickly find someone he knew, but Taiyou was only the former and adjusted relatively quickly. He woke up on a field, with a bright sun and fresh air. There, he and several others were instructed to gather five lucky animals for prizes. This taught him a variety of things: it's possible to be whisked away to some strange place overnight like in storybooks, fantasy creatures exist, and it was easy to make new friends with those people stuck on the same boat! He completed the task with someone he recognized from his world, and then he began to wander about the perpetually-twilight seaport Mac Anu.

Unlike most others, Taiyou didn't think of being taken to this MMO as a problem. He felt no urgency to return home. Their purposes were indeed a mystery, but it did no harm. He made many friends! And here he had no illness, and was free to do as he pleased without long-lasting physical consequence. So he decided, he would live his life here to the fullest here, just as he had vowed to live by back home. He explored several maps; aware they weren't real, but he thought it didn't matter as long as they felt so. The lifestyle was slow and idyllic through the next several months. His spirit was only dampened by the departure of friends occasionally.

But all good things have to come to an end. Just as strangely as it began, Taiyou received word from the moderators that the players all had to go home; that the beta was over. He only had 24 hours left to say his goodbyes. He wondered if he would forget everything soon as he stepped through; one of his friends who had been in The World before said he did. It made his heart heavy, and his feet not want to move. Taiyou really didn't want to take the risk. But there was no choice for him in the matter. The 24 hours were ending soon.

"I don't want to forget. I don't want to forget. I will not forget."

After he went through The Chaos Gate one final time, there was blankness.

He heard a voice calling out to him. Something about the ultimate conflict of mankind. He didn't understand. But before he knew it, he had said "yes". The one word was from a state of confusion, yet nonetheless sincere. And that is where Amemiya Taiyou's new story unfolds...

▷ A better sense of direction from all that exploring of fields and dungeons.
▷ He's been to festivals!!! So he'll need less explanations than his usual, sheltered self.
▶ It'll feel really terrible to have a weak body again...
▶ He's starting to wonder if he'll ever get home. He misses his best friend especially.

Personality:
Taiyou is a bright soul, kind and cheerful, zealous and simple-minded, yet at times oddly philosophical. He easily makes friends, and just as easily gets lonely. His warm, docile personality means he is generally someone people want, or at least wouldn't mind, to have around. He's a pure-hearted individual, and doesn't seem to dwell (or even see) the wrong in people. This optimistic mindset of his gives him the drive to be there for those who need more light in their life. If he can't outright make someone feel better, he at least promises to listen if ever they want to share their worries. To an extent, his naivete can even make him wiser: some complicated-sounding problems have simple answers, after all. And if that's not the case, he'll do his best to understand even with how difficult it is.

As a leader, the boy's very good at bringing people together. His team, Arakumo, displays trust in his decisions as captain for their match against Raimon in the Holy Road semi-finals, even if he was physically absent for all their prior Holy Road matches. Given his enthusiasm for the tournament and the sport as a whole, it's likely he established his being with them in some ways not established to the players. According to interviews, Arakumo only plays according to Fifth Sector's score orders when Taiyou isn't around; the Holy Emperor Ishido Shuuji makes it so that any game with Taiyou in it is played freely. The team is very supportive of Taiyou, and their main focus isn't even on winning--it's that they all, especially Taiyou, have fun.

Taiyou is a pretty emotional person. He's grateful for each and every one of his friends, and if there's even a subtle hint of a negative feeling, he'll be right on the case trying to make it better. To be there for them, and they for him, it's a wonderful relationship that he would not sacrifice anything for. But while generally content with sharing others' happiness, whenever alone, Taiyou's mind wanders. He doesn't like to admit it, but he gets jealous. What would his life be like, if he didn't have to worry about his health faltering? Fear of his mind going down this direction, a state of wishing for the impossible, is another reason he hates being alone. He hasn't confessed about it to anyone; and just bottles it up inside. Dwelling on it isn't something he enjoys. "If you have company, you should be happy" would be a simple way to summarize his mentality.

For someone as sweet as him, even Taiyou doesn't always abide by the rules. He has this reckless spirit that he has a hard time controlling when he feels particularly energetic. This leads to him often sneaking out of his hospital room, be it out of boredom or wanting to chat. For the most part he tries not to be discovered so he doesn't upset anyone, but at the same time it's hard to tell if he's really sorry for when he sneaks out. Needless to say his careless habit irritates his nurse. On a more serious note, this is due to his "following his heart", because he has to make the most out of every day he has, especially with his awareness that his life would probably be a short one. There were times that he did back down, such as when the doctors made him stop playing, but he's since learned to stick up for himself more, to the point of demanding the Holy Emperor to let him play even with his life on the line.

Taiyou's biggest weakness is his choosing to ignore his limitations. Couple this with his degrading health and you've got someone going at suicidal lengths for what his heart is telling him. Willpower can solve just about anything in idealistic stories, so why should his condition be any different? Taiyou doesn't fear death. He does everything with full effort so as he would not leave behind any regrets. In a way, this trait brings out both the best and worst in him. And to be brutally honest, Taiyou would be a hypocrite in this regard; he would remorselessly break his body trying to achieve a goal, but not let anyone else do the same.

Adding to that, his being sick had prevented him from getting many visitors; or at least, they couldn't stay for very long. Taiyou instead of getting used to the isolation just ended up getting lonelier faster. Being stuck in a hospital bed and simply being instructed to sleep does sound awfully boring when there are all these other things you could be doing outside. From beyond that context, Taiyou probably still hates not having company. He likes talking to people; giving advice, sharing stories, having a good laugh... He doesn't want to miss those.

On a final note, Taiyou apart from being themed after the sun was designed to be somebody who shone, but was fragile like glass. It's quite evident, both physically and emotionally.

Key Personality Differences:
▷ A stronger instinct to support and protect others.
▷ Less culture shock about when people don't want his company.

Canon Powers:
Athletes in the Inazuma Eleven universe are able to use hissatsu techniques. And in GO, a minority of players are able to summon keshin (translated as "avatars" by one subbing group). Because it's akin to a Persona, I don't expect Sun God Apollo to be brought with Taiyou.

Taiyou's default skill set as of the first game are as follows:
Ryuusei Blade (Almighty) - From mid-air Taiyou kicks the ball with his right leg at a sharp downward angle. It is engulfed by a purple shine, before exploding into a fiery shoot towards the goal.
Presto Turn (Strike?) - Taiyou makes a feint by appearing to slide towards one side of the defender, but with a strong curve actually turns out to be the other direction and he quickly dashes away. Will be interpreted as a retreat move instead in Destiny Strings.
Crazy Sunlight (Elemental: Light) - Light gathers to Taiyou's left hand, which he then casts into the air and dazes the opponent for a couple of seconds with its blinding shine.
Chouwaza! (Passive) - His techniques are stronger at the cost of more TP (Technique Points: Inazumaverse's skill/magic points).
Sunshine Force (Elemental: Fire) - Taiyou's keshin Sun God Apollo engulfs the soccer ball with flames until it becomes a large fireball. Taiyou then kicks it towards the goal.
Keshin Drawing (Mind) - Powered by the emotions of his teammates, Taiyou is able to summon his keshin (despite fatigue) and unleash an intense attack. The cost of this is its being exhaustive on his body.
Taiyou is also a very graceful, accurate player despite his condition. As seen in caps of one cutscene. This will be a boost to Evasion/Accuracy.
